At the very beginning of 2011 I remember sitting down with Margaret (/Mum) and carving out a plan to launch our makeup in time for our major trade event (Organic & Natural Products Europe in London) in April. It had already been two years and many trials and tribulations in the making, and such a short deadline was a big ‘ask’. We knew the stars really had to align if the certification, design and raw materials deliveries would all come together in time. In a way they had to; I was due to give birth to my second child the very day of that exhibition.
Somehow we made it and the very first lipsticks and eye pencils certified for both organic and Fairtrade ingredients were launched, followed not long after by our wonderful pressed eye shadows. Well done Mum for your amazing formulations!
A little later in the year, the third ‘baby’ was born – our new website – which despite anticipated issues with new technology was a fairly smooth transition in the end.
It’s been another rich year for awards: As soon as it was launched, our new Lipstick was voted runner up in the prestigious Natural & Organic Products Europe awards at Olympia and then won a Bronze Medal in France's largest natural & organic cosmetics Awards. As a small British company we took this as a particular compliment as France is home to many famous cosmetic houses and new natural make-up brands. The Eye Pencil, Lipstick and Mascara were also awarded 'Highly Commended' by Green Parent magazine and our Mum and Baby range, relaunched and redesigned in 2010, has received several awards including Best Organic Baby Product 2011. The good old favourite, Gentle Herb Shampoo also received a Platinum award from radio celebrity and natural product guru Janey Lee Grace.
Needless to say, we won't be resting on our laurels! Feverish formulating is already under way to develop your most requested additions to our make-up range. At the moment Margaret is dividing her time between that and trying to secure our 2012 sources of several key ingredients like organic lavender; the world supply of which seems to have just dried up and can vary enormously in quality...we won’t settle for second best.
And we’ve just kicked off a very big and exciting project – plans for a new eco-building for the Essential Care HQ and production facility in Suffolk. More on that to come...
2011 has been another difficult year for the economy and we would like to thank all our loyal customers for your support. Without you, none of what we do would be possible. We look forward to hearing from you again in 2012.
Wishing you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy, Healthy New Year
