All those years ago when Margaret was asked by a friend to create a shampoo suitable for her scalp psoriasis, little did she know where it would lead. Gentle Herb Shampoo has already won several prizes in the UK – Best ‘Free From’ Shampoo 2013 as well as Janey Lee Grace’s (author of Imperfectly Natural) platinum award no less than 3 times. But now the success has spread to France where our shampoo has just won the prestigious Observatoire des Cosmetiques award for best sensitive scalp shampoo.
The ‘Guide des Meilleures Cosmetiques’ (guide to the best cosmetics) is a book published every 2 years that reviews a broad selection of skin care, not just natural or organic. The products are evaluated by a jury of independent experts (including a formulator, dermatologist, hairdresser, pharmacist and beauty therapist) based on a number of criteria including efficacy, skin tolerance, labelling, safety, whether it’s nice to use and the value for money. The 2015-2016 edition, just published, was the largest ever with 8033 products from 555 brands judged across all 165 categories.
For each of the categories, only the best 5 products are recommended by the jury and for the winner, the book gives a detailed explanation of how it reached the podium. As to why Gentle Herb won the prize for best sensitive scalp shampoo, the judges said that it was a very gentle formulation combined with good actives (horsetail, nettle, rosemary, coconut oil, aloe vera and chamomile) to balance and regulate the scalp. It makes hair look good and the scalp healthier. It scored a maximum 5 points for compatibility with sensitive skin and close to top marks for quality of formulation, safety and being a pleasure to use.
We are absolutely thrilled and it’s especially nice to see the shampoo recognised for what it was created for – sensitive scalps or those with psoriasis or dermatitis – and among some pretty big brands.
For those conversant in French, the guide is available to buy online from the website of the Observatoire des Cosmetiques. It’s described as an “indispensable guide to making an informed choice about the best cosmetic products”.
