I first began researching the business plan for Essential Care whilst in Paris some ten years ago now, so it's always a happy feeling for me to come back here and see it doing well in stores.
We're sold in 3 stores in Paris and we're visiting them all in a 2-day trip to help launch our new label Odylique. It's so exciting to see it on the shelves! (‘We’ is my French colleague Isabelle on the right of this photo and me.) .
Parisian women take their beauty seriously. Organic and purity are big issues for the French but they expect results – so much of French life and style is about quality over quantity, which is reflected in the products we create.
We are in the pretty southern part of Paris at Biocoop Ruche d'Alesia, part of a gorgeous group of stores whose nearest UK equivalent is Wholefoods or Planet Organic (except possibly better - the manager of the store says he receives visits from Wholefoods reps looking to see how they can improve!).
The choice of products here is phenomenal - from shelves upon shelves of organic ready meals to obviously very yummy cosmetics! It's easy to live an organic lifestyle in Paris - which is just as well - pollution levels are so high here today that the metro has been opened for free to save people walking at street level - certainly not an environment beneficial for the skin!
