This time of year is one of our favourites at Essential Care – long, sunny days, time off with the children and a generally more relaxed pace of life make us just feel happier. The recent rainy spells and increased humidity have meant that this year though, summer has also brought a host of irritating pests, in the form of biting and stinging insects.
Mosquitoes, fleas, wasps and sand flys are all being recorded in record numbers, so whether you are enjoying summer at home or abroad chances are that unless you are one of the lucky groups of people with resistant blood, you will end up with at least one bite. Whilst these bites are unlikely to kill you then can be very uncomfortable and lead to infection quite quickly. Try these measures to help your skin stay looking and feeling good.
Prevention is better than cure: If you are out, particularly in the evening wear loose, light clothing to make it harder to get to your skin, don’t walk across the beach without footwear. Use an insect repellent or our amazing Organic Mosimix. This light, refreshing oil provides the skin with a light sheen that looks absolutely fantastic in the sunshine with no need for a separate moisturiser. It smells delicious, but bugs and insects absolutely do not agree and will hunt for their dinner elsewhere!
Soothe quickly: If you have been bitten, do NOT scratch the bite, no matter how satisfying it feels. Instead clean the area and use a cooling lotion like our cult Spot on Serum, with antibacterial antifungal tea tree, lavender and echinacea (from £6.50), to soothe the bite and ease the maddening itch.
There you have it – two simple steps to ensure you stay looking and feeling discomfort free this summer.
Enjoy the holidays!
