If you’ve been Essential Care customers for a long time, you’ll know that health and beauty journalists Sarah Stacey and Jo Fairley have been staunch supporters of ours since our very early days. Jo helped catapult Gentle Herb Shampoo to fame, writing about it in 2005 (in YOU magazine) – despite the fact that as she later admitted to me, the packaging looked like something you’d wash your dog with!
It was the formulation she loved (and the labelling has since been through many many improvements…). She has most recently written a lovely review of our Superfruit Concentrate in Psychologies magazine. And Sarah has written many a flattering word about our lipstick, Scrub, and Avocado Replenishing Cream in her columns.
They have collectively done so much over the years to fly the flag and promote the benefits of not just our brand, but all good natural and organic beauty products. So it was wonderful to be able to give Jo and Sarah some support by attending a Roadshow for the launch of their latest work, the Ultimate Natural Beauty Bible. Here's a picture of Sarah Stacey and me (Abi) with a copy of the Ultimate Natural Beauty Bible.
This is the eighth in the Beauty Bible series, following titles including the Green Beauty Bible, Beauty Bible Steals, and the Anti-ageing Beauty Bible, as well as thousands of articles on their website beautybible.com which has a slavish following.
What makes Beauty Bible unique is that it is the largest independent review of beauty products in the world. Something like 18,000 women have been human guinea pigs for Beauty Bible over these years. As I understand it, these reviewers don't mince words. Reviews can be harsh, but they can also be flattering and can really level the playing-field between large and small brands. The Beauty Bible books are essentially a compilation of the best-scoring products by category, commented on by Sarah & Jo, with snippet testimonials from the beauty bible testing panel. There are also lots of features and insider tips.
Having only put a few products forward for review this time (we were in the midst of rebranding when the Ultimate Natural Beauty Bible product trials were taking place), we’re delighted that one of our products was a category winner. – Our Creamy Coconut Cleanser – soon to be known as Odylique Creamy Coconut Cleanser scored a rather fabulous 9.3 out of 10. It received some touching comments: “skin felt mega-clean after this and I’d switch brands in a minute” and “better than Liz Earle Cleanse & Polish (did I just say that?)”!
As per all certified organic products in the book, it also got the maximum 3-star daisy rating for formulation purity and "cleanliness".
The book is a celebration of the fact that nowadays, many natural cosmetics are every bit as efficacious, just as luxurious to use and as gorgeously packaged as any others in the beauty halls. And of course, we believe, much healthier for women and sustainable for the planet.
The Ultimate Natural Beauty Bible published by Kyle Cathie is available on Amazon priced £16.99 (RRP £19.99). It makes a fascinating read and a great gift. The new DIY recipes section would also be great fun if you feel like having a go at making your own natural skincare.
