Natural Summer Skincare Guide

Natural Summer Skin and Health Care Tips

Summer is the time to clean up your act when it comes to your skin and health regime, so we're bringing you our top 5 tips in our Natural Summer Skin and Health Care Guide!

summer skin natural

Tip 1:

Eat fresh (organic) fruit and vegetables. Seasonal produce really comes into its own here. The list is endless and with flavours exploding (especially if they’re organic which we firmly believes tastes better and has more nutrients) this really is the time to enjoy the best nature has to offer. If you aren’t sure what to pick we love Green Awards Winner, Eat Seasonably for their fantastic guide to what to eat when. Eating seasonally is better for the environment too!

Tip 2:

Take some gentle exercise. You do not have to pound the pavements to feel better. Research shows people who walk for just half an hour a day have better sleep, are less prone to depression and anxiety and you save money on petrol too.

Get a group of friends together and walk round the park or try a yoga or pilates class. If you get really confident you could try a BHF walking challenge - and we all know that when we feel better we look better!

Tip 3:

Get enough sleep! Light nights and even lighter mornings mean those who don’t get enough rest really struggle through the summer. Your skin and general well-being will reap the benefits if you do try and get your full quota of sleep per night. Avoid caffeinated drinks for three hours before bed and try our organic Relax Essential Oil Blend with lavender and ylang ylang  sprinkled lightly on the pillow or into a bath for a gentle lull to dreamland.

Tip 4:

Change your skin regime. It takes roughly four weeks for a new skin regime to take effect and up to three months for unremoved make-up to be shed from within the skin’s layers. So now is the perfect time to change things up a bit!

You can start by scrubbing up - sloughing off dead skin cells encourages the production of new, fresh ones.  Our Coconut Candy Scrub is PERFECT for this! Follow up with our soothing and summer-perfect Tropical Bliss Body Lotion to cool and smooth summer skin.

You wouldn’t paint a wall without clearing away the surface debris first and cleansing is no different.  Keep it fairly light with a creamy based cleanser and rinse in cool water to avoid irritating skin.  Remember to focus your attentions where dirt gets rubbed to, like the jaw and hairlines to avoid blocked pores.  Our award winning, fresh smelling Creamy Coconut Cleanser, gently removes any trace of dirt whilst leaving you feeling refreshed and protected

Whilst a drying, high-alcohol toner definitely isn’t considered the ‘done’ thing for skin these days, a sweep with a pH balanced floral water (hydrolat) tonic will clear away resistant dead skin cells far more gently than, but just as effectively as a facial scrub, leaving skin looking refined and pores closed.  Try spritzing our Calming Rose Super Tonic, onto your face for a soothing pick-me-up free from harmful chemicals.

Warmer weather means more moisture in the air so unless your skin is dry look for a lighter formulation with nourishing ingredients that will feed the skin and let it breathe.  Our Organic Rose Moisturiser,  is the beauty editors’ favourite, beloved for its deep level moisturising with shea butter, jojoba oil, coconut oil, aloe leaf, and the essential oil and hydrolat of damask roses.

The cold-pressed plant oils, naturally high in antioxidants of vitamins A & E, and sea buckthorn help counteract the ageing and collagen-destroying effects of 'free radicals' and sunlight.

Margaret’s super-tip for ultimate results:  Great skin is hydrated and rested. Drink plenty of water through the day and rest for a minimum of seven hours per night.  Try a rejuvenating workout like Yoga, to create an inner glow.

Tip 5:

Take time to really relax. Being happy and contented is a lot easier when the sun shines and is a great habit to develop now, rather than in the summer when school holidays, packed airports and long queues at overpriced tourist destinations can make even the most laid back amongst us feel harassed and overwhelmed. Cut your stress levels now by tryingmeditation or yoga for a health giving, refreshing workout to concentrate the mind and body.
